Friday Night Open Thread

First, a major thanks to TChris for posting great stuff today. I headed off for court this morning, and one thing followed another, and I just got back. I haven't seen any news, so here's a place for you to discuss whatever you want while I take a few hours to unravel and get caught up.

Interesting info on Pat Robertson at Christianity Today. especial wrt to Robertson's money (scroll down). Robertson has a mining operation in Liberia and his company is incoporated in the Caymen Islands (wouldn't want to pay taxes). So I found this quote interesting
He may call for the assassination of Chavez, but he'll brook no criticism of his business partners, even former Liberian president Charles Taylor. "How dare the president of the United States say to the duly elected president of another country, 'You've got to step down,'" Robertson said after Taylor was indicted for war crimes.

John Dean asks: Does Robertson's Threat Count As A "True Threat"? The Applicable Fourth Circuit Precedents Suggest It Does.

i've heard unraveling can be painful, do be careful. pat robertson is creme de la scum, has been since i went to college down there. it gets even better, his first foray into the wonderful world of business was to convert a 501(c)(3) not for profit entity into a for profit one, and, with a minimal investment on the part of he and his son, make a cool 80 million dollar profit in the process. that not for profit was, of course, built up over the years with your tax dollars. care to hazard a guess as to what entity that might have been, boys and girls? not too shabby for a preacher boy!

Scott Ritter has a new article up, one which has much to offer the reasonable mind. Ritter Clarifies the Situation Regrettably, Ritter has the inability to question authority that I have seen in several Marines. He simply doesn't conceive that USPNAC is all about CREATING civil war, and that what he calls 'mistakes' are KNOWING, CALLOUS, ACTS OF TERRORISM AND GENOCIDE. Some diseases are only cured with rope.

Squeaky - Where are you?????? DA - You left out what you really like about Marines. (Don't forget I can "channel" your thoughts now that you are writing in the Spaceman's Language.)

One of the protests I attend most weeks has just gotten its second USMC attendee. So it's not the case that all Marines are oohrah about anything that the civilian authority comes up with. Indeed, the failures of the civilian command in the 60s provided quite a bit of military anger back then, as I recall. The current fiasco ought to REALLY make the military angry -- and not at protesters. They may pity us our lesser status, but if the new kid is any evidence, they ARE REDHOT PISSED AT THE CHICKENHAWKS.
