Late Night: Fashion Rocks

Is anyone watching Fashion Rocks? It's great. Dennis Leary is hosting, Fergie and Debbie Harry just about brought down the house and Keith Urban is totally on his game.

It's on CBS and the proceeds benefit Stand Up to Cancer.

Update: Kid Rock is another standout with "All Summer Long." The audience is on its feet, and then he brings out...Leonard Skynyrd. They're now doing Sweet Home Alabama. Sounds better now than it did then.

This an open thread.

    McCain/Palin = 4 more years of Bush is not working (5.00 / 1) (#3)
by barryluda on Tue Sep 09, 2008 at 10:22:17 PM EST
At least not with my independent friends.  One in particular says it's just not credible to say that McCain is like Bush given what we've seen in the last eight years.

A modest tweak seems to work much better:

"We can't afford a Republican for another 4 years."

For some reason, that has been going over much better.

I don't know who is writing their material, but they need a change.

Explain what's wrong. The economy, unemployment, housing bubble, gasoline prices, national debt. Take three points and keep repeating them.

It worked for Palin. How many times have you heard about a bridge in Alaska, which has no impact on our future? But it's working.

Dems message is all over the map.

Too, can feel like the message "McCain = four more years of Bush" sounds too much like, "Vote for us because we're not them," and it seems like people, rationally or otherwise, don't respond so well to that sort of thing as a sales pitch.

"Eat here because we're not that crappy restaurant down the street."

Yeah, I'm walking right in and ordering a big plate of food. Sure.

I agree it is tired, and not good enough to get me to vote D blind anymore...but it ain't nothing new.

to see the story about the Klansman who had his conviction overturned by the Fifth Circuit.

Supposedly the issue was whether the statute of limitations expired.  Well, since the crime happened 40 years ago, I was mystified by how the case ever got to this stage if there was a legitimate statute of limitations issue.  I mean, how complicated could it be?  Either the statute expired or it didn't!

So I actually had to go to the Fifth Circuit's website to read the opinion.  It actually turns out to be a really, really complicated issue!  I hope to see some blogging on it at TL.

Camille Paglia I have never connected with her writing much, and was surprised by how much I agreed with her in this piece about Palin and dem reaction.  Paglia is a Clinton hater, but I put that aside while reading and actually found she had some interesting things to say.

but wasn't listening closely. Thought it was another MTV awards type of deal.

Leonard Skynyrd . . ahhh . . . those were the days :) hopefully they do a cable replay and I can catch it.

Did I hear the Stand Up to Cancer numbers were 100 mil? Seems to me we should just skip our government and have a few focused fundraisers for healthcare and other issues. Pickens was on Dobbs tonight about his energy program. Another issue where it may be better to bypass "the tired, old politics" and go to the people.

Thumbs up to SU4C and all those that participated. And Lance Armstrong for going back to the races to keep the message in the media.

submitting to Apple business?  I have to say it's a little creepy how much info they have and the aspect of "tracking."

I went to the Apple store for the first time here in Fort Worth a few weeks ago.  I bought this really cool shell/protector for my iPod.  I used my debit card that I use to buy songs from iTunes.  When I checked my email that day, I received an email from Apple asking me about my experience at the Apple store.

At first I was like, WTH?  How did they know I went to the Apple store?  Then I just made the leap about my debit card.

Anyway, just a little too "somebody's watching me" for me.

that's why I always pay cash.

And when they sometimes ask for your phone number, I give 'em the old 555-1234, or for a zip code the old 66666.  It's easier and less confrontational than "none of your beeswax"..I realize they're making 10 bucks an hour or less and are under orders to ask, so I don't wanna bust the clerk's chops.

This is what Genius does: (none / 0) (#11)
by txpolitico67 on Tue Sep 09, 2008 at 11:40:28 PM EST
ITunes 8's marquee new feature is Genius, which automatically suggests songs based on your selection of a baseline. Genius has two parts: the Genius sidebar and the Genius Playlist tool. If you're familiar with iTunes, you may notice some similarities between Genius and both the iTunes Mini Store and Just For You features from iTunes 7 and earlier. You will need to turn on Genius before using it; iTunes will collect information on your iTunes library, submit it to Apple, and then start feeding you Genius sidebar results. When you activate Genius, iTunes compares your songs, playlists, and iTunes purchase history against what Apple offers on iTunes and library information from other users to give you the most relevant recommendations.

who played the phony race card against the Clintons now upset that the Republicans are playing the phony gender card against Obama.

I hate to say it but I love it.  Too bad they don't get the phony ass__ of the press like Frank Rich, Maureen Dowd, Jack Cafferty, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews to charge Obama with disgusting gender bias but wait, they all too are arrogant misogynists.

Looks to me like Obama is going to lose this election.  Too bad that along with that loss we don't get the pleasure of seeing the DailyKos and it's hate mongers incinerated.  Unfortunately, these stupid bast____s will be around to screw up another election for the Democrats.  Three in a row, what an impressive record!

It is amazing that these words are coming from a lifelong Democrat who will vote for Obama and hate every nanosecond of pulling that lever.
