that will make prices go down at the pump...NOT!

Doesn't Hillary, in her infinite wisdom, realize that any new tax on a corporation gets passed on down the line until the end user ends up eating it?

unless and until demand decreases.

FWIW, in Germany, per their radio news, a liter is going for Euro 1.45.

That works out (at $1.54/1 Euro) to about $2.24/liter, and thus (at 3.79 liters/gallon) to $8.49 a gallon.  You and me, paying less than half that, are (to their eyes) living in paradise.

Of course, a lot of their price at the pump goes to taxes which not only keep their roads a lot nicer than ours, but support mass transit and a lot of other socially beneficial purposes.  But Republicans don't do that - they figure out ways to waste gas because that pushes sales.

So, do the following:

  • tune your car properly - getting a $200 tuneup will amortize itself (at $3.50/gallon) in about 4000 miles if you have an average car (like mine)
  • drive conservatively - your best economical performance is at between 1000 and 2000 RPM
  • if you have a manual transmission, get into the highest gear possible as quickly as possible - the difference between 4th and 5th gear at 35 mph works out to about 16% less gas used in 5th
  • inflate your tires properly - that's good for another 5 percent less gas used
  • eliminate idling, needless trips, and all the rest of the wasteful practices you know you should get rid of.

It's boring, it's unsexy, and it works.

Or, you can just open your wallet wider.

F*ck Hoyer.

When I hit the lotto, I'm moving to his district just to run a self-financed primary against him and grind him and his career into the dust.

It's not me I'm worried about though...it's the small trucking company and Joe Blow who is barely keeping his head above water.

Passing new taxes is akin to kickin' Joe Blow in the nuts.  Exxon will not just eat any new taxes, they will pass it down to you and me...guaranteed.
