It is widely known in history, that Johnson felt deeply about this subject and went against the gain nearly totally in his own party. He showed rare courage in a president on this subject. On other things he was a bit of a crooked politician but on this one thing he was even warned that if he did it the democratic party would be lost in the south for generations but he stated he needed to do it anyway....Read your history....(I am old enough that I lived it) It was a amazing part of our history Dadler please don't distort it...
