surprised me at all.

How can people who are underpaid and have heavier work load works better for me than people who are getting $500 an hour that I can fire if I don't like his work?

It is not about abilities. It is about incentives and work load. The result sounds very intuitive to me.

I don't know what econometrics has been done but for those who doubt what has and has not been done, read the paper and offer criticisms on the actual methodology as oppose to guesses of what has been done.
